A brand-new electric vehicle from a brand-new electric vehicle manufacturer. Polestar was previously Volvo's racing wing, but it's now a stand-alone electric subsidiary controlled equally by Volvo and its Chinese parent company, Geely The company's automobiles are manufactured in China and marketed all over the world.

The smile on Tesla drivers' faces says it all: beautifully built intuitive cabin, smooth performance, tremendously cool image.
The adjustable dampers in the Performance Pack are excessively hard right out of the box.

The entry-level 'Standard Range Single Motor' variant, which comes with a 64kWh battery capable of 273 miles of range and a 221bhp electric motor, starts at £39,900. The 'Long Range Single Motor' improves the battery to a 78kWh unit that can go 335 miles on a single charge and increases output to 228bhp. It is priced at £42,900.
Then there's the Polestar 2's top-spec 'Long Range Dual Motor' variant, which has electric motors on both the front and rear axles. Despite weighing 2.1 tonnes, the automobile produces just over 400bhp, split 50/50 front-to-rear. This property is for sale for £45,900.
On the design front, the work is done: this is a fantastic-looking machine in metal, crisp, fresh, and clean-cut, with plenty of presence but no artificial vents or phony-aero crap. It looks like the automobile of the future, yet it's far enough away from a Volvo S60 to avoid being contrived. When one of them whooshes by, take note.
