The new Cupra Formentor VZ5 incorporates a 390 hp five-cylinder engine that makes it the sportiest model built in our country. SPANISH has been one of the means chosen in Spain to get to know the Cupra Formentor VZ5 up close. It is the sportiest version of the Cupra Formentor and the most powerful production car ever made in Spain. In addition, it is the first Cupra car (and therefore Seat) that incorporates this five-cylinder engine. It is a propellant that until now was intended for the sportiest models (and firms) of the Volkswagen Group. Therefore, the arrival of the VZ5, which occurs coinciding with the third anniversary of the brand, represents a further step, a new vote of confidence in Cupra, Seat's brand, so that it continues to grow on its path towards sportsmanship, offering thus a more youthful audience and with a greater focus on sportsmanship within the Volkswagen Group, mainly thinking about the markets of Spain, Germany and Switzerland.
We traveled to Barcelona to see the Cupra Formentor VZ5, Thus begins our journey with Joan, in the Marina Vela in Barcelona, about 30 kilometers away from the Seat (and Cupra) factory where this model is assembled. There, this Cupra expert tells us that the name of VZ5 refers to two concepts. On the one hand, the initials VZ for 'Fast' and on the other the name 5 which is a nod to the engine with the same number of cylinders. "It is the maximum expression of sportiness in combustion engines, and it is also the first time that we have this engine and this power," says Carbajosa. Regarding the design, this Cupra manager tells us what details the model has to differentiate it from the rest of the Formentor range of versions. And in this sense, Carbajosa points out that it has a redesigned lower grill and numerous carbon fiber elements to further highlight its sportiness. In addition, from the side point of view they tell us that there are new wheel arches, new skirts and some shells on the rear view mirrors that are in matt black. And what most attracts the attention of the exterior in this model are the 20-inch wheels, which are the largest diameter that any other Formentor has. And all this with the more powerful brake calipers developed with the Akebono company, a company specialized in brakes with technical centers in the United States, Japan and France and that serves its products to numerous manufacturers, including the Volkswagen Group. "These calipers also have six pistons and have a very long stress resistance to keep up with the demands of this engine," he says.
Also from Cupra they tell us that this Formentor VZ5 is a centimeter lower than the rest of the range of this SUV or crossover. As for the rear, the initials VZ5 stand out on the tailgate, a new diffuser with carbon fiber elements and tailpipes in copper or copper color and diagonally giving a more radical character to the car, compared to the Cupra Formentor 310 hp that has four tailpipes in black and with a horizontal design. Once we have seen the exterior of the car, it is time to find out what is new inside. And in this sense Carbajosa points out that it will have three different interiors (black, blue and brown for a special limited edition finish). In addition, in black the Formentor VZ5 has special seats that the firm has called 'CupBucket' that are original first for this VZ5 although later they will be included in all the models of the Formentor range and whose mission is to have a "design and a structure so that we can feel the road to the fullest, allow us a very strong lateral grip, have an integrated headrest and are also made of nappa leather, "says Carbajosa. Of the driving modes, this person in charge has not been able to confirm all the details but he has anticipated that when driving with the cams in the instrument panel there will be a kind of traffic light with the colors green, yellow and red and with flashes to indicate which one. This is the perfect time to get up into gear. Regarding driving, although we have not yet been able to launch this new model, Cupra does tell us that Jordi Gené and Mattias Ekström, two renowned drivers, have actively participated in the development of this car to try to offer the best sports capabilities to its users.

Continuing with the details of the car, the engine deserves special attention. Among other reasons because it is the first time in Seat and, therefore, in Cupra that they receive this five-cylinder Volkswagen Group engine. It is a 2,480 cubic centimeter propeller, present until now in the Audi RS Q3 and the Audi TT RS and that in these cars offers a maximum power of 400 hp. For Cupra, in this sense, they have reserved 390 hp (only 10 hp less, despite being the same engine), a figure that makes it the most powerful car manufactured in Spain so far. Until now, the most powerful was the Cupra León with 310 hp from another engine, the 2.0 TSI. This new Cupra Formentor VZ5 also incorporates a seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission (DSG) that transmits all the power to all four wheels through 4Drive technology. A key aspect in this regard, because we are talking about a maximum torque of 480 Nm, available practically from just over 2,000 revolutions. All this allows you to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.2 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 250 km / h.

Of course, to make it even more exclusive, from Cupra they have decided that this Formertor VZ5 will have a limited production of 7,000 units. It will, therefore, only these cars that will be put on sale and in all the markets in which it is present, including Spain, although as we have indicated previously it is very likely that Germans and even Swiss are the that most demand this sporty SUV. And finally, the price. From Cupra they still cannot tell us what price this model will have. But we can make an estimate. In this sense, for example, the official price of the 310 CV Cupra Formentor VZ is $ 50,000. Therefore, that of this 390 hp VZ5 will have to be higher as it has a new, more powerful engine. Of course, we are convinced that it will not reach the price of the Audi RSQ3 of 400 CV and $ 86,000.
